Tropenbos International - Supporting wildfire prevention in tropical forests

At COP30 in Belém, Tropenbos International hosted several events to support wildfire prevention in tropical forests, including Preventing tropical wildfires: Local leadership, national ambition and financing, contributing to the momentum to support integrated fire management globally. Details on the events can be found here, along with the Joint Statement of Support for the Call to Action on Integrated Fire Management and Wildfire Resilience, which was endorsed by 50 countries at COP30.

Tropenbos International also released a summary report on NDCs and wildfires: Opportunities for more ambitious climate commitments. The study indeed highlighted how 27 tropical countries reference fire management in their NDCs, with only 8 setting explicit wildfire targets, and provided key approaches for enhancing NDCs with effective fire management.
